Peace as both a means and an end

NEXT YEAR'S MUSIC FOR PEACE PROJECT
2008 - exact dates to be announced

The Musician's Alliance for Peace (MAP) is dedicated to the creation of a local and world community where compassion, empathy and diversity are the norm and peace is cultivated both as a means and an end.

During the weekend of March 30 - April 1, the Musicians' Alliance for Peace (MAP) will coordinate The Music for Peace Project 2006: an international, non-partisan series of concerts calling for peace. Anyone performing anywhere that weekend is welcome to participate. This year the goal is to hold 500 concerts in three days spanning every continent, creating a community that cannot be ignored. Background Information on Musician's Alliance for Peace (from the Musicians' Alliance for Peace website). For more information go to m4p.org.

MAP was formed in October of 2001 by graduate students at Stony Brook University to bring musicians together to promote peace. Initially MAP performed live multimedia events as well as benefit and memorial concerts, and worked with groups such as The Social Justice Alliance, September Eleventh Families for Peaceful Tomorrows, Breakthrough and Students for Peace and Humanity.

In February 2004, MAP coordinated the first Music for Peace Project resulting in 73 countries in 50 hours as an international, non-partisan call for peace.

In April 2005, MAP coordinated its second Music for Peace Project, which had 181 concerts in 26 countries and 22 states over the course of 3 days, as an international call for peace. The local festival included 18 events, sponsored by many campuses and local groups. (See CONCERT FOR PEACE)
